Parents and Carers of children in Year 6- applications for Secondary School 2022

6th September 2021 By jackieglass

Year 6 children will be bringing a letter home about applications for secondary school places today. School has been asked to share the following information from the Local Authority with parents/carers:

This letter will provide parents with details of how they can make their child’s application for a Secondary School placement in 2022.

The application process for the Secondary Admissions 2021 Intake is due to begin on Monday 6th September 2021.

Parents can make their application for Secondary School online by visiting www.durham.gov.uk/schooladmissions and the School Admissions online application facility will be available to parents from Monday the 6th of September 2021.

The Closing Date for Secondary School Applications is the 31st October 2021.

If parents do not wish to apply online they can complete a paper application form, and these are available to print from our website (same website address as above) from Monday the 6th September 2021.

Alternatively these application forms can be requested by e-mail to schooladmissions@durham.gov.uk or by telephone from the School Admissions and Transport Team on 03000 265896.

Copies of the Parent’s guide “Primary and Secondary School Admissions in County Durham 2022/2023” will also be available from our website or on request from Monday the 6th September 2021.

Please note that if you have any year 6 pupils who live in another local authority but attend your school, the parents should contact their Home Local Authority (i.e. the authority to which they pay their council tax) to request an application form, even if the parent would like to apply for a Secondary School in County Durham.

Thank-you for your co-operation with this matter, it is much appreciated. If you have any questions relating to this please contact me via telephone on 03000 265892 or by e-mail to schooladmissions@durham.gov.uk

+++++Covid 19 update for parents/carers 5.7.21. +++++

5th July 2021 By jackieglass

Unfortunately we have had a number of confirmed positive cases of Covid 19 in school,. This has meant that year group bubbles have needed to stay at home and isolate. Online learning is in place for those pupils who have to isolate.

Y1,Y2 and Y5 are isolating , returning on TUESDAY 6th JULY

Y4 are isolating , returning on MONDAY 12th JULY

Nursery (Puffins and Penguins) are isolating until further notice. Hopefully we can update parents in the next day or two with confirmed isolation dates.

I appreciate how frustrating this must be for all concerned. We are not alone in having positive cases, the numbers are rising across the country and in the north east in particular and other schools in County Durham are also dealing with this situation. We are pleased that we haven’t had more disruption before now , as many schools have not been so lucky . This doesn’t make it any better,  I know.

Government have promised a change to the Covid 19 operational guidance for schools from September, but as yet this hasn’t been confirmed or shared. As soon as we know more we will advise everyone but until then we all have to follow the guidance we have around Covid 19, even if this means further disruption for families, pupils and staff.

More information on Covid 19 can be found at:

Covid 19 is still circulating – information for parents/carers from DCC

23rd June 2021 By jackieglass

Dear Parent /Carer,

As you will have no doubt seen in the news Covid 19 is on the rise again across the country and also in County Durham . Several schools in Durham have had positive cases amongst pupils and staff and yesterday Framwellgate School was advised to close due to an outbreak.

We obviously do not want the last few weeks of term to be disrupted by closding bubbles and sending pupils home. We have not had  a positive case since before Christmas, and we really want it to stay that way. However, as society opens up and regulations relax and people mix more , this will help Covid to spread.

We are still working under our system of controls in school .  Staff are following Covid guidance and testing twice per week.

Durham County Council has asked us to share this letter with all parents. Please read it as it contains important advice.

DPH letter – parents and carers 11-6-21

Can I once more ask that all parents/carers take the following advice:

  • Do not send children to school if they have Covid symptoms or seem generally unwell. The Covid symptoms are changing . If your child has  a runny nose, cough, headache, high temperature, sore throat (even if it seems like a cold) please keep them off and book a PCR test. If it is negative they can return to school.
  • If you are notified by Test and Trace that you or your family must isolate, please do not send the children to school until the isolation period is over.
  • Please encourage your child to wash their hands and sanitise , as we do in school.
  • Please continue to wear a face covering when bringing or collecting children.  We are outside but it is busy and sometimes it is impossible to socially distance.
  • Please come alone to collect or drop the children and don’t congregate at the gates to talk , please leave the premises quickly
  • Please follow the national guidelines around mixing households and the rule of six .

Children’s attendance is not affected if they are isolating or off as awaiting the results of a test.

Stay Safe.
