15th November 2019 By trishfay

Autumn Term Friendship Day began with a special assembly led by Mrs Glass and Mrs Foster.
Mrs Foster talked about the importance of being kind, caring, sharing and friendly to everyone.
As always, each class teacher chose one pupil who had been a special friend to everyone to receive the Friendship Award.

The Infant department were pleased to welcome the Mayor of Durham, Katie Corrigan. The Mayor came to talk to the KS1 children about her role and responsibilities as Mayor and to formally announce the results of the school elections for School Council, International School Council and E Team.
Mrs Glass thanked the Mayor for making time in her very busy schedule to visit our school.

Hockey Heroes!

22nd October 2019 By trishfay

KS1 children learnt an exciting new skill when Callum Addison from Durham Hockey Club came to share his enthusiasm and expertise. After watching an introductory video, Callum showed the children the basic skills needed. It is the perfect sport for every size, shape and ability. The children then were given some coaching using child sized hockey sticks. We may hopefully inspire some new Hockey Heroes!

Visitors from Nepal!

21st October 2019 By trishfay

We were pleased and honoured to welcome Mr Binod Kumar Koirala and Mr Suresh Shreshtha to Bowburn Primary School. Their visit is part of our long standing British Council Connecting Classrooms Partnership with Gladstone Academy in Thimi, Nepal.
Mrs Glass introduced them to our pupils and staff during a Welcome Assembly.
During their week long stay, they spent time in both Infant and Junior departments, observing and collecting ideas to take back to their school. They also spent time with Mrs Fay and her family visiting South Shields for a traditional fish and chips lunch and their first taste of mushy peas! They were both very interested and informed during a trip to Beamish Museum. Binod and Suresh also spent an entertaining evening with Adam Bushnell.
Our partnership, and friendship,  has been running strongly now for 9 years and we hope to continue for many years to come.
